It is early. It's snowing. There is a quality to the sound of snow falling that is remarkable. The silence that snow creates is also extraordinary. As a native New Englander, the first snow is one of the first weather events I anticipate eagerly. Exactly for the silence. Snow is an amazing insulator. It softens all the hardness of winter. It quiets the noise, it softens all the edges and makes everything pristine, if only for a moment.
How wonderful is it to be in that moment, in the quiet. The furnace pump, hot water ticking in the radiators and my fingers tapping on the keyboard are the only sounds to be heard. One of which will stop in a moment.
If you are awake early and reading this, take a moment to listen to quiet. To let it envelope you, it is a wonderful and comforting feeling.
